Simultaneous search in multiple languages and multiple objects in a topic

Simultaneous search in multiple languages and multiple objects in a topic

Multiple keywords search with OR operator

If you need to take into account several variants of spelling, including different languages, when searching for the desired word/person/company, use the | symbol. This symbol allows you to search for publications that contain at least one of the specified words.

For example:Iran|Іран

The | symbol is called the OR operator and is used in many search languages.
You will find texts that contain either both words or at least one of the specified words. The | symbol can also be used to find unrelated objects, such as competitors or several top managers of a company.

In the same way, you can search for different keywords if you are interested in posts that contain at least one of them. This search option can also be used when creating a topic. Learn more about creating a topic in Semantrum.

Search for multiple keywords using the AND operator

If you want to search for several words so that they appear in the text simultaneously, you should use the & (AND) symbol. This symbol allows you to search for publications in which both words are present, but without a steady order of words.

For example, you need to track when persons were mentioned in the text at the same time:
spaceX&Ukraine or spaceX Ukraine (both queries are the same)

A space between words is equivalent to the & symbol. Thus, you get posts that necessarily contain both words in the text and at any distance from each other.

This search option can also be used while creating a topic. Learn more about creating a topic in Semantrum. AND and OR operators can be used to create complex queries. Learn more about how to combine and cross keywords. You can also specify keywords that, should not appear in posts. Read more about excluding keywords from search (stop words).
Please Note:
  1. The system automatically detects word endings in the search and finds the same word with a different ending. For a more accurate search, use special characters to specify word endings.  Learn more about how to take different word endings into account.
  2. If you use a long phrase for search (e.g., article title), pay attention that it does not contain unnecessary characters, such as commas, periods, exclamation points and questions. Characters that should be removed from your search query: ! , . ; ? =#№$/\
  3. Semantrum queries are not case sensitive. That is, queries Kyiv and kyiv will be exactly the same.
What to do if...
You have not found the publication you are looking for:
  1. Check if there are no errors in your search query, you should pay attention to whether the system does not give an error when searching because of the use of special characters.
  2. If you don't see a publication from the desired online media in your account, check if the article has keywords that are present in your topic settings. Also check how long the article has been published. If it has not been published for more than 10-30 minutes, the publication may not have been processed yet.
  3. If keywords are present in your publication and your publication really needs to be included in a topic, please contact your support manager or write  in the system chat. Our managers will suggest you why the publication is not in your account and determine the necessary steps to add the source to monitoring in the system.

Enjoy using the Semantrum system!
