Automatically identified objects

Automatically identified objects

What are automatically identified objects?

Semantrum system automatically identifies several groups of objects in texts.

These include:

  1. geographical objects,
  2. names of people,
  3. names of brands and organizations.
The method of automatic identification of these objects is based on the analysis of various markers in the texts that indicate certain objects.

This feature will be useful for you if you need to identify speakers, experts, important people who are mentioned most often in your topic, etc. in a certain set of publications, provided that you do not have a preliminary list of such people. You can also use this feature, for example, to find out which geographical names your competitors mention in their materials, as well as to identify the main organizations/brands in a certain topic.

Automatically detected objects can be used

  1. as a filter to search for specific publications,
  2. as statistical data.

Please note:
There are several features in automatic object identification that are related to the way the system processes texts.
  1. First and last names of people are determined by the language in which they are written in the text. There is no aggregation of names in different languages. Thus, if a people surname is spelled differently in German and English, the system will identify 2 people separately according to the specific spelling of the surname. If there is a mistake in the spelling of the name or surname in the text, then, accordingly, such spelling will also be identified separately. We advise you to check for different spellings of people's names in the filter by automatically detected people in order to use the filter correctly and create analytics.
  2. Automatic identification of geographical objects, brands and organizations is performed in different languages for a certain catalog of objects. Thus, for one object you can find its mention in different languages, but this function applies only to those brands and organizations that are in the system catalog.

If the specification of your tasks requires you to track mentions of certain people or organizations, the list of which you already know, you can use the automatic tagging function. Write to your support manager or chat in the system to set up automatic tagging. Learn more about what tags are and how to use them.
If you need to analyze information by regions from which a particular publication originates, use the Source country filter. This filter deals with mentions of your topic in sources from different countries. Read more about what characteristics of sources are highlighted in Semantrum.

Filters by automatically identified objects

Filters by automatically identified people, geographical objects, brands and organizations are located in the filters panel. In filters you can see the objects defined in the posts you filtered, as well as the number of their mentions. The objects are sorted by the number of mentions, the TOP-30 objects by the number of mentions are displayed.

In the filter you can also search for all objects defined for the filtered publications.

Please note:
  1. The number of mentions of an automatically detected object means the number of publications with this object. The number of mentions of the same object in one publication is not counted, 1 publication = 1 mention.
  1. If you cannot find a certain object that is supposed to appear in the publications, try entering a different spelling in the search field in the filter, check what other filters are used, or increase the period you are analyzing.

You can manage filters by automatically detected objects so that you can select several objects at once, select a combination of objects in posts, and cut off posts mentioning a certain object/objects. Learn more about how to manage filters.
