Tracking hashtags

Semantrum has the ability to track publications with hashtags that were mentioned in the text of publications. Learn more about social media monitoring. The system determines the presence of hashtags in various types of publications in social networks (posts, reposts, reposts, comments).

Social networks in which hashtags are displayed:
  1. YouTube
  2. Twitter
  3. Instagram
  4. Facebook
  5. TikTok
  6. VKontakte

Please note:
  1. If the # sign is found in texts of other media types, hashtags are not highlighted.
  2. The system determines the hashtag according to whether the # sign is present in the text, as well as according to the text before the first space after this sign.
  3. If hashtags are spelled differently, have characters added at the end or are in different languages, they will be determined separately according to each variant of hashtag spelling.
  4. If hashtags are repeated in the text, the system detects and counts them only once.

How hashtags differ from tags

Hashtag is a word or phrase that follows the # symbol. Hashtags are used to group similar messages in social networks. It means that the user decides which hashtag to mark a message with. Meanwhile, Semantrum identifies these entities in publications and highlights them in publications, groups them in a filter by hashtags, etc.
Tag is a label that can be placed in the text of posts automatically or manually by the user. Tags allow you to filter posts, generate graphs based on them, export data to a report. Autotags are placed by the system on publications according to the features (keywords and other settings) configured in your account. Learn more about tags.

Displaying hashtags

In the publication feed on the publication card you can see the hashtags that are available on the publications. By clicking on a hashtag, you will filter your feed by this hashtag.

You can also view the full list of hashtags that the author has put on the posts by hovering over the hashtag field on the post. The hashtag you have selected for search will be highlighted in orange, which allows you to quickly find it in the list.

Filters by hashtags

To view hashtags, switch to the Filter Panel and select Hashtags. You will see hashtags that have been used in posts on your topics. Select the necessary hashtags and their display type and click OK.

In the filters you will be able to see the hashtags found in the posts you filtered, as well as the number of their mentions. Hashtags are sorted by the number of mentions, TOP-30 hashtags by the number of mentions are displayed.
You can manage hashtag filters so that you can select multiple hashtags at once, choose a combination of hashtags in posts, and exclude posts with mentions of a specific hashtag. Learn more about how to manage filters.
In the filter you can also search for all hashtags found in the filtered posts.

Please note:
If you cannot find a specific hashtag that should appear in the posts, try entering a different spelling in the search field of the filter, check what other filters are used, or increase the period you are analyzing.

Hashtags in exports

Data on the distribution of publications by hashtags can be obtained in exports of automatic reports in .xlsx and .docx formats. To do this, select the desired tag in a particular topic and download an automatic report on the found publications. Learn more about exports in Semantrum.
In the exports of the list of publications in .xlsx format, the hashtag that was posted in it is indicated for each publication.

How to correctly include a hashtag in the topic query

You can also set up a search query by hashtags to set up a topic. In order for posts by hashtag to be included in a specific topic, it is necessary that the keywords contain words from hashtags, because often their spelling is different from regular keywords (no spaces, etc.). Learn more about topic creation in Semantrum.
For example: ElonMusk

Please note:
If there are any punctuation marks after the hashtag without a space, these marks are also defined as part of the hashtag. Therefore, if you make a request for a specific hashtag, you can also put an * at the end to take into account the possibility of the presence of characters after the hashtag.

Monitoring by hashtags

You can also set up monitoring of publications by hashtags. Setting up such monitoring can apply to both those hashtags that already exist and are used in social networks, and those that you are only planning to create. To set up hashtag monitoring, contact your support manager or write to the chat in the system.
