What should I do if I can't find the publication I'm looking for?
Everyone who uses Internet, at least once, was in a situation when the searches did not bring the desired results. Such cases are common for Semantrum users as well, but they can be reduced by understanding the system's working principles better. We propose you to find out the reasons why the publication you need is missing and find out how you can add it to your monitoring :)
If you cannot find the publication you are searching for in the topic/topics, there are several important points to be checked.
Checking the monitoring source
- First of all, please check again what types of sources Semantrum monitors to ensure that the system can collect information from the desired source. Remember that Internet media monitoring has some limitations, such as sites without news sections (i.e., information that is added periodically and has a fixed date of creation), landing pages, business websites, pages with announcements of events of different organisations.
- If publication has not been posted for more than 10-30 minutes, it may still be unprocessed by the system. Publications from Internet sources reach the system with a certain delay, which depends on the content speed of the resource and can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
- Check the settings of media types displayed in your personal account. For example, if your topics are basically set to collect information from all types of sources, but you have selected to display only social networks in your account settings, you won't see publications from web sources, but they will continue to accumulate in your account and will be seen by other users in your account. Read more about how to set up the display of media types in your account. Also, check the selected filters in the Filter panel to see if you have not selected a setting that prevents you from finding the publication you are looking for. Read more about the filter by source type.
- Please note that TV and Radio is monitored according to a specific broadcasting schedule (radio and TV), which contains mainly news broadcasts. Press monitoring is performed according to a list of sources.
Checking the search query
- Make sure the search query does not contain any mistakes. Please check that the system does not display a search error because of the usage a special symbol. Frequently, publications are searched for by their title, which may contain the symbols : , and others. Delete these symbols and try the search again. Check the search query language rules in Semantrum and then edit your query.
- Please check the selected filters in the filters panel to see if any settings have been selected that will exclude the publication you are looking for. Use the "View current status of filters" button to check (Read more about the main interface elements).
- A publication needs to contain at least one keyword/phrase to get into your account, which is used in your topic settings. Make sure that the article contains the keywords that are present in your theme settings. Open the topic editing window to do this. Read more about editing topics.
- If you' re not sure which topic the post should belong to or you do not have rights to view/edit topics, please switch out of all topics and try to search through the entire account. Read more about browsing topics.
- If the publication does not contain keywords for which set up a topic, you can create a new topic with the desired keywords (provided that your rate has not yet used up the available number of topics in your account). Read more about creating a topic in Semantrum. You can also add new keywords to an existing topic (read more about editing topics) as well as add a history of previous publications for that topic to upload missed publications (read more about filling topics with publications from previous periods).
- The required publication may not have been monitored due to a stop word in it. Learn more about excluding keywords from the search.
- Monitoring social media by hashtags also has certain specific features. It is necessary to have the words from the hashtags in the keywords in order for hashtagged publications to reach a specific topic, because they are often written differently than regular keywords (spelling in Latin, no spaces, etc.).
To be able to view the settings and edit your own topics, the user must have the appropriate rights. If you did not create the topic, but you need to edit it or know the settings of it, please contact your support manager or send a message to the system chat.
Checking the topic settings
- If topic keywords are available in the publication, make sure that the history has been completed for the required period for the topic. Remember that, by default, publications start collecting to the topic from the moment the topic was created. Find out about filling topics with publications for previous periods.
- Pay attention to the selected media types when setting up the topic. You or your support manager may have excluded the required media type from the list and, as a consequence, the publication did not appear in the topic. If you are editing the topic on your own, add the correct media type and be sure to run the story filling for the previous period.
If all issues have been considered and the publication really should have appeared in the topic, please contact your support manager or send a message in the system chat. Our managers will advise you why the publication is not in your account and determine the necessary steps for adding the source to monitoring in the system.
- Each website must be connected to monitoring in the system in order to receive information from the Internet media. This work is done by specialists from the content department. More than 14,000 sites are now connected and the number of sources in the system is constantly increasing. But some sites ( recently created, small or foreign) may not have been scanned before. If you do not see any publication from a given source in your account, it may not have been previously connected to scanning in the system. Also, sometimes sites change page/section addresses or article structure, which leads to errors in data processing. If you have checked the query, keywords, search settings and still can't find the publication you are looking for, the site may not be connected to scanning or there may be an error in its scanning. In this case you should contact your support manager or send a message in the system chat. Our managers will tell you why the publication is not in your account and determine the necessary steps for adding the source to monitoring in the system. If the site does not block the scan and there are no other technical problems, our specialists will connect/restore the site scan and upload the missing publication to the system and your account.
- If there is a missing publication from a social network, pay attention to exactly the way a particular social network is monitored (read more about social network monitoring). To improve the monitoring of social networks contact a support manager or write to the chat. They will suggest you one or both of the following options (depending on which social network in question): a) add the keywords you want via direct search to the social network; b) add specific pages/channels of the social network to the monitoring.
Enjoy using the Semantrum system!
